Famous for her work in the R&B, urban contemporary, and dance pop music genres, Perri “Pebbles” Reed is perhaps most well known as the creator and manager of the popular 1990s music group TLC. She released several solo albums, including the Platinum recording Pebbles (1987) and the Gold-designated album Always (1990).

In the early 1980s, she began her career as a songwriter and backup singer for the music group Con Funk Shun.
In the late 1990s, she established a religious organization called Women of God Changing Lives Ministries and began performing under the stage name of Sister Perri. Shortly thereafter, she recorded the gospel album Prophetic Flows.
A native of Oakland, California, she was born Perri Arnette McKissack. She later settled in Atlanta, Georgia, and married and divorced real estate executive George L. Smith; professional baseball player Otis Nixon; and record producer L.A. Reid before marrying Excel Sharieff in 2010. She also had a brief first marriage to the father of her daughter Ashley.
She collaborated with Grammy-winning R&B singer and music producer Kenneth Edmonds, a.k.a. “Babyface,” on the hit 1990 single “Love Makes Things Happen.”
