American writer whose debut children’s novel, Frindle, won the Christopher Award and fifteen other literary prizes. His other works include the Pets to the Rescue series, the Jake Drake books, and stand-alone novels entitled Lunch Money, Lost and Found, and We the Children.

He earned a degree in English literature from Northwestern University and received his master’s in elementary education from National Louis University. Early in his career, he worked as a songwriter.
He received the 2007 Edgar Allan Poe Award for his children’s book, Room One: A Mystery or Two.
He was raised in Camden, New Jersey and Springfield, Illinois. He and his wife, Rebecca, had four sons: Charles, George, Nathaniel and John.
